Thursday, March 16, 2017; Mayor Van der Laan opened the exhibition “A Better City”. Amsterdam and the General Extension in De Bazel.
A Better City displays the passionate quest for a better future for the whole society, which took shape in the General Extension Plan (AUP) of Amsterdam. The AUP was developed in the 30s of the 20th century, because Amsterdam needed to extend dramatically. The realization led in 1949 to a doubling size of the city. Within the western suburbs are the main areas but also Buitenveldert, Watergraafsmeer and parts of northern belong to the AUP.
The Treasure Chamber:
The vault doors of the Treasure Chamber are open for public and you are able to admire a whole new selection of the archives and collection from the City Archives.
Thereby opens the exhibition of a onehundred years of ‘Theater Carré’ in the Treasure Chamber. The showcases show the most beautiful and interesting pieces from the extensive archives of Carré. Remarkable photo’s of Variété and Circus artists from the thirties, portrait pictures of Oscar Carré’s favorite horses from 1909, programs, posters and admission tickets, but also interesting correspondence with artists, suppliers and of course the public.
