One of the absolute highlights of the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam, is the world map of Joan Blaeu from 1648. The map has an impressive size of more than 2 to 3 meters at that time offered the most current knowledge of the world. Of this version of the map with text from Blaeu and a new place for China, there is only one existing in the world. After a long time the map is visible for the audience again at the exhibition Blaeu’s World | master cartographer in the Golden Age. ” The exhibition highlights the most surprising details of the card, the political context of the card and tells us more about the Amsterdam firm of Blaeu. ‘Blaeu’s world map’ is an addition to the popular exhibition of Atlases and can be visited from April 14th until December 31st, 2017.
